To say Adir Abergel is a frequent flier is a bit of an understatement. The red-carpet hairstylist and VG Committee member has traveled over 300,000 miles just this year, recently making the film festival rounds with Nicole Kidman in Venice and Florence Pugh in Toronto, and then back home to Los Angeles for the Emmys with Kristen Wiig. A topsy-turvy life, but Abergel dances through it, a fixture on the A-list circuit whose talent is matched by his incandescent energy. Born in Israel to Moroccan parents, Abergel traces the flashpoint of his career to a chance meeting as a teenager with the legendary hairstylist Arthur Johns, whose clients included Liza Minnelli, Farrah Fawcett, and Chaka Khan. “Somehow I had this incredible confidence, walking into his Beverly Hills salon and making him believe that I should be his assistant,” Abergel recalls with a laugh. He worked on music videos (Britney, Missy Elliott, TLC) before finding his groove in editorial and red-carpet work, becoming a master at coaxing subtle, sometimes subversive, transformations out of iconic beauties like Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart. As creative director of the hair care brand Virtue, he is the genius behind many of our favorite VIOLET CODE APPROVED staples, test-driving new formulas on the likes of clients Anne Hathaway and Saoirse Ronan.
