When it comes to matters of adornment, the worlds of beauty and jewelry are aesthetically aligned: high-shine gloss and incandescent powder doing the same work as a glittering diamond collar. That’s what brought Nicole Richie, the creative director of the jewelry brand House of Harlow, into VIOLET GREY’s orbit earlier this fall, with a trunk show at the Melrose Store that featured her latest earrings and necklaces; she also shared the handpicked beauty essentials in her BAG, which align with the meaningful stones in her work. Nicole moves through the world attuned to the energy-shifting potential of these raw materials. “I always travel with a crystal on me—always,” she tells VIOLET GREY’s Cassandra Grey, whose fragrance house, Madame Grey, taps into similar esoterica with a new suite of astrological candles. In the video above, the two creative powerhouses and founders talk about personalized gifting, being the "directors" of their own movies, and maximalist style. “I do not live by the rule ‘Take one thing off,’” says Nicole. “I usually add one more thing!”
