Nicole Richie
The creative director brings together intuition and adornment.

Nicole Richie’s fascination with jewelry traces back to her mom’s collection. “It was the ’80s, the decade of more is more. She really lived up to that state of mind,” she says. Richie went on to forge a television career, beginning in 2005 with the reality show The Simple Life, though she has lately rekindled that interest in sparkle. As the creative director of the fine jewelry line House of Harlow, she is focused on the interplay of design and self-expression. “Jewelry lives with you—on your skin, in your rituals—and watching someone connect with a piece in a personal way is everything,” she says.
Richie’s creations for House of Harlow are rooted in deeper meaning, with natural diamonds alongside sacred stones, like tiger’s eye, which “reminds me to stay focused and intentional,” she says. This talismanic effect plays out in her new Nova collection: pendants, drop earrings, and choker necklaces that are now on view at VIOLET GREY’s Melrose Store as part of a holiday trunk show called The Jewelry Box. For Richie, who still swears by the same MAC Spice lip liner that she wore in seventh grade, her designs are at home alongside beauty essentials. “They are ways of highlighting who you already are, adding light and depth to how you move through the world.” The self-described beauty minimalist is loyal to a few obsessions, collected here in her BAG. She pairs each product with a like-minded stone—setting intention where it counts.
