When questioned on the subject, VIOLET GREY brand ambassador Kira Nasrat has been known to describe her vibe as “gangsta with a Birkin.” The statement is just a taste of the makeup artist's sweet-but-sassy sense of humor (and style), which has beguiled fans and clients almost as much as her genius with a foundation brush. (Gwyneth Paltrow, Jamie Chung, Margot Robbie, Billie Lourd, and Freida Pinto are just a few of her satisfied customers.)
But for much of Nasrat's life, although she worked on the business side of the beauty industry, makeup was nothing more than a hobby, albeit one that she was very, very good at. It wasn't until six years ago, when actress Azita Ghanizada (a close family friend) asked Nasrat to do her makeup for a red carpet event, that Nasrat--who was working as an account executive--realized she could parlay her favorite pastime into a lucrative career, and got serious about the business of beauty.
After joining VIOLET GREY in 2013, Nasrat helped to open and manage the flagship store on Melrose Place, working with VIP customers and growing her celebrity clientele. Now, as VIOLET GREY's first official brand ambassador, Nasrat does what she does best--charming celebrities, and the world at large, with her winsome smile and unmatched beauty prowess.

“Start with a flat foundation brush from Utowa and evenly apply this light powder all over the face, starting with the t-zone and working your way out. Because the product is quite sheer, you can add and build coverage if you need it, but for this look I prefer to keep it light for a really natural finish.”

“Brows should look super natural and effortless—the last thing you want is for them to look drawn on. The trick is to pick products that are a shade softer than your own hair so they don’t look too dark and harsh. Use the brush end to sweep them up, then fill in the areas that need it. Always go with the natural shape of your brows.”

“Next, apply this cream shadow, sticking to the lids. You will also be using your finger for this one, but because it’s a long-wearing formula, you’ll need to work quickly—once it sets, it’s not going anywhere.”

“Use Utowa’s #13 brush to add this shadow to the eye, blending it with the other two, again moving upward on the lid in circular motions. Using the brush distributes the product evenly to give a softer finish, which is essential for a look like this, where you want perfect imperfection at the edges.”

“I went with the Tom Ford mascara because it has a big brush and Winona has big eyes—my rule is, The bigger the eye, the bigger the brush. If your eyes aren’t quite Winona size, go for Serge Lutens’ smaller brush. Either way, start by getting as close as you can to the roots of your lashes. I like to do one coat moving upward, one coat moving downward, and another going up—just in the corners—for extra oomph.”
