HERO WORSHIP: LYMA LASER PRO
The groundbreaking at-home device creating competition for plastic surgeons.

It would be difficult to overstate the impact LYMA’s Lasers have had on the skin care landscape. Before the accidental discovery of the technology’s transformative effect on the skin, there existed a sizeable gap between the results one could expect from a visit to a doctor’s office and what could be achieved sans professional intervention. The creation of the original device succeeded in bridging this divide with astonishing at-home results, and in the year since its release, the bigger and more powerful LYMA Laser PRO has all but made said gap obsolete.
THE GENESIS
Professor Paul Clayton was watching low-level laser therapy aid in the rebuilding of cartilage in a 62-year-old patient's damaged knee when he made a what would become a history-making observation: The skin on the knee that had been treated looked 20 years younger versus the non-treated leg. Sensing that they were on the precipice of a breakthrough, LYMA assembled a team of world-class scientists led by Clayton and craniofacial and plastic surgeon, Dr. Graeme Glass PhD, and tasked them with parlaying the medical technology into a safe, handheld consumer product specifically designed to address aging skin: The LYMA Laser.
Shockwaves rippled through the beauty industry as early adopters began to bear witness to the original device's exceptional ability to turn crepey, creased skin smooth, to lift and tighten sagging, practically erase sun damage, and convert ruddy, sensitized skin to a radiant, calm complexion. The results were did-you-have-surgery-level remarkable—the buzz so deafening—that skin care and medical practitioners took notice, and demand for an even more powerful, professional-grade iteration prompted the invention of the LYMA Laser PRO.
THE TECHNOLOGY
Rather than creating trauma in the skin to promote an inflammatory collagen response like some other modalities, LYMA's cold laser technology uses photobiomodulation to manipulate gene expression and rebalance collagen synthesis—a method that is both heatless and painless. With focused, deeply penetrating near-infrared light, it charges up the mitochondria of each skin cell, reactivating collagen and elastin production while simultaneously switching off the genes that cause cellular senescence (aging).
The PRO device hit the market in 2025, boasting not only a larger lens than the original—30cm² vs 8cm²—but triple the power. It penetrates up to 10cm into the dermis, lifting skin and muscle simultaneously, and delivers the proven dose of near-infrared laser light at 4 joules/60 seconds, allowing for more intensive treatment over a larger area.
With 38 global patents, five peer-reviewed studies, and clinical results like 103% improvement in elasticity in 30 days and 46% reduction in pigmentation in six weeks, the laser is, as Dr. Glass puts it in layman's terms, "the closest thing you'll get to surgery without any of the pain or downtime.”
THE MOMENTUM
In the year following the debut of the PRO, skin experts, the industry, celebrities, dermatologists, surgeons, and countless customers (keeping it in stock is something of a Sisyphean effort for team VIOLET GREY) have made the laser more than a household name; it is an undeniable gamechanger, a standard-bearer, and the next frontier of at-home care. Board-Certified Dermatologist and VIOLET GREY Committee member, Dr. Dendy Engelman, raves, "This level of wrinkle reduction at home is truly groundbreaking. The transformation with this technology mirrors what I see in surgical results.”
Despite the name, no advanced degree or certification is required for the LYMA Laser Pro—anyone can use it, and actresses Carey Mulligan, and Hannah Waddingham, and model Miranda Kerr do so religiously. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, known to use the large laser on her oft-photographed face, neck, arms, and legs, sums it up nicely: “The bottom line is that this device can treat the untreatable without any pain or damage to the skin.”
