“Gwyneth has flawless skin to begin with, so tinted moisturizer is all you need—just a little something to even out the skin tone (although this one from NARS has a bit more coverage than the average). Use your fingers to apply, beginning at the t-zone and working your way out. If you feel you need a little spot coverage, NARS Creamy Concealer will do the trick.”

“Using the #7P pointed eyeshadow brush from Utowa, go for the more champagne color on the right of this duo. Give the eyelid a wash of hue, then draw along the bottom lash line with the point of the brush and frame the eye.”

“Follow up with the bronze color on the left, switching to Utowa’s #13 brush and taking just a little of the product onto the tip. Trace along the crease of the eye, working your way toward the inner corners for a shadowy, smoky feel.”

“This is a really great mascara to coat the lashes and give them color. We want them to be super black but not too dramatic—one swipe and you’re good.”

“You want to honor the way brows frame your face—don’t change them, just enhance. For those with super fine or light brows, this is an ideal product, as the texture coats your hairs and gives them a little bit of color. Use Utowa’s Oblique Eyebrow brush to fill in as needed.”

“I love this color because it doesn’t have any shimmer or shine—it’s just a really nice, neutral cream blush. Use the tip of your middle finger to tap it on, starting from the center of the cheek and moving upward in circular motions. I always like to smile when I apply cream blush so I can see the apple of the cheek clearly.”

“When lining lips I like to draw a little X right at the cupid’s bow as a guide. Carefully outline the rest of the lips with this warm color. It’s a ’90s look, after all, so the lips have to be lined!”

“Continue the ’90s feel with this deep rose lipstick from YSL. Apply straight from the bullet and you’re done.”

When questioned on the subject, VIOLET GREY brand ambassador Kira Nasrat has been known to describe her vibe as “gangsta with a Birkin.” The statement is just a taste of the makeup artist’s sweet-but-sassy sense of humor (and style), which has beguiled fans and clients almost as much as her genius with a foundation brush. (Gwyneth Paltrow, Jamie Chung, Margot Robbie, Billie Lourd, and Freida Pinto are just a few of her satisfied customers.)

But for much of Nasrat’s life, although she worked on the business side of the beauty industry, makeup was nothing more than a hobby, albeit one that she was very, very good at. It wasn’t until six years ago, when actress Azita Ghanizada (a close family friend) asked Nasrat to do her makeup for a red carpet event, that Nasrat—who was working as an account executive—realized she could parlay her favorite pastime into a lucrative career, and got serious about the business of beauty.

After joining VIOLET GREY in 2013, Nasrat helped to open and manage the flagship store on Melrose Place, working with VIP customers and growing her celebrity clientele. Now, as VIOLET GREY’s first official brand ambassador, Nasrat does what she does best—charming celebrities, and the world at large, with her winsome smile and unmatched beauty prowess.
