“To get lush, bouncing curls like Faye’s, begin building volume in the shower. Prep by washing the hair with Christophe Robin shampoo and conditioner for instant body.”

“Add Oribe’s Curl Shaping Mousse while the hair is still damp. Rather than scrunching the product into the ends, run it evenly from the roots to the tips. This ensures that your curls last all day and are soft to the touch, rather than crunchy.”

“Using your finger or a small comb, part your hair on the side and use Y.S. Park’s round brush with the Parlux hair dryer to give yourself a blowout. Always brush the hair away from your face while drying, making sure to keep the part intact.”

“Add one pump of the Shu Uemura Absolue Essence oil to your ends after blow-drying. The light formula absorbs quickly into dry hair without leaving it greasy, keeping your tresses nourished and protecting them from the heat of your curling wand.”

“Use the smallest barrel in the T3 Whirl Trio to curl the ends of the hair, wrapping it away from the face. As you release each curl from the wand, keep it coiled and pin it with a Y.S. Park clip to help it set. While the curls are still pinned, lightly spray them with a coat of the Shu Uemura Finishing Spray for extra insurance. And for best (read: longest-lasting) results, don’t unpin the curls until they are completely cooled.”

“Spray the Sachajuan Volume Powder in the roots and at the crown of the head for one final volume booster. Let the product sit for a few minutes on the head, then really massage it into the scalp.”

For VIOLET GREY makeup artist Jamie Keller, beauty was a true vocation. “I had always wanted a feel-good job, and makeup is so rewarding to me,” she says. Upon graduating from high school in the small town of Tehachapi, California (“It has one stoplight,” Keller deadpans), she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her passion for enhancing clients’ best assets. That, and to be closer to the ocean.

After spending the next nine years working as a makeup artist on fashion editorials and red carpets, Keller joined the VIOLET GREY team in 2015. Patrons at the Melrose Place flagship seek her out for her laid-back California beauty looks and attitude to match. (After a session in Keller’s chair, you’ll probably want to go to the beach with her.) Whether playing up a client’s chiseled bone structure, full and pouty lips, or sharp, defined brows, she specializes in spotlighting their best features in her signature relaxed style.

Appropriately enough, Keller loves to surf, and characterizes her makeup aesthetic as “bronzed and dewy.” She says with a laugh, “I’m a product of my surroundings.” But her ultimate golden goddess inspiration is not of the surfer variety, but rather a Bronx-born music megastar. “I’m obsessed with Jennifer Lopez,” she confirms. “Her beauty is always on point.”
