“Begin by using this shadow stick to draw across the upper lash line—it will be thick, but that’s what you’re going for. Next, buff with Utowa’s #7P brush, keeping the color in a line. Use whatever product is left on the brush underneath the eye, starting at the outer corner and working inward.”

“Start with the top right shade, using Utowa’s #13 brush to blend across the crease, moving upward to just below the brow bone. Then, using the bottom right color, trace over the crease with the same brush, moving back and forth from the inner corner and extending to a little wing off the outer edge. To highlight and lift, use a finger to tap the top left shade into the brow bone and inner corners of the eye.”

“Dot a little Duo Eyelash Adhesive on the back of your hand while you prep the lashes. Cut them into sections to fit your eye and make them more manageable. Use tweezers to swipe the lashes through the now slightly tacky glue, then place one strip in the middle of your lash line and another at the outer corner for extra impact.”

“After the eyelash glue has dried, use this eyeliner for even more emphasis. Trace right along the lash line, on top and a little above the band of the falsies, following the shape of the lid. Draw past the outer corner of the eye and give it a little flick at the end.”

“Use Bobbi Brown’s Concealer Blending Brush to take a bit of this bronzer and brush it over the eyelids. Using your finger, tap the bottom left eyeshadow shade into the center of the lids and finish it off with a coat of Bobbi Brown’s Smokey Eye Mascara.”

“Dab Kjaer Weis’s Cream Blush in Sun Touched onto the apples of the cheeks and blend well. Then use this RMS highlighter to enhance: Apply with a finger, following the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s bow, and the cheekbones. Finish with a touch more bronzer on the forehead and jawline, but take care not to layer it over the Living Luminizer or you’ll end up with a blotchy effect.”

“Line lips with this pencil, then use a finger to blend the color down and fill the lips for a rich base of pigment.”

When questioned on the subject, VIOLET GREY brand ambassador Kira Nasrat has been known to describe her vibe as “gangsta with a Birkin.” The statement is just a taste of the makeup artist’s sweet-but-sassy sense of humor (and style), which has beguiled fans and clients almost as much as her genius with a foundation brush. (Gwyneth Paltrow, Jamie Chung, Margot Robbie, Billie Lourd, and Freida Pinto are just a few of her satisfied customers.)

But for much of Nasrat’s life, although she worked on the business side of the beauty industry, makeup was nothing more than a hobby, albeit one that she was very, very good at. It wasn’t until six years ago, when actress Azita Ghanizada (a close family friend) asked Nasrat to do her makeup for a red carpet event, that Nasrat—who was working as an account executive—realized she could parlay her favorite pastime into a lucrative career, and got serious about the business of beauty.

After joining VIOLET GREY in 2013, Nasrat helped to open and manage the flagship store on Melrose Place, working with VIP customers and growing her celebrity clientele. Now, as VIOLET GREY’s first official brand ambassador, Nasrat does what she does best—charming celebrities, and the world at large, with her winsome smile and unmatched beauty prowess.
