The Canadian-born McAdams, who studied psychology as an undergrad, didn’t quite realize that her talent for makeup could become a full-fledged career—that is, until she paid a visit to her older sister’s [actress Rachel McAdams] trailer on the set of The Notebook. A beauty lightbulb went off, and with her sister’s encouragement, McAdams enrolled in beauty school.
A quick study, McAdams went on to assist renowned artists like Pati Dubroff (their first job together was the aforementioned Duff video in 2005) and Stéphane Marais, eventually relocating to Los Angeles to hone her craft. She has since become an industry regular, working her magic on the faces of celebrity clients like Sofia Vergara, Riley Keough, and, of course, her sister, all of whom appreciate her expertly balanced makeup looks (think: dewy faces plus one standout feature, like a sultry red lip or a smoky eye, against natural skin).
That signature look attracted the attention of one of the world’s most luxurious skincare brands, La Mer. This June, McAdams was named one of the brand’s first-ever color ambassadors to support its foray into makeup.
But when the artist isn’t beautifying the faces of her clients, she can be found putting in quality time with her other two favorite companions. “I spend every minute possible with my dog, Debbie,” she says. “Oh, and my husband.”
