To give the face a more vibrant look, I applied the Charlotte Tilbury Color of Youth Lip and Cheek Glow on the apples of the cheeks with my fingers. Then I very lightly added two shades of The Retoucher: number 3 in the center of the face to take away redness and number 4 around the edges for dimension.

I used the Glossier Balm on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow, chin, lips, and eyes, dabbing it on with my fingers. I wanted Kelly to look glowy but natural, more like she just came out of the sauna than she was wearing a lot of highlighter.

I applied the Hourglass Lipstick and smushed it with my finger to make the lips look very natural. Then I had Kelly blot about three times to get the color to blend seamlessly.

We didn’t want Kelly’s hair to appear too neat. To add volume, I used the Christophe Robin Instant Volumizing Mist with Rosewater before blow-drying with an Ibiza Boar Bristle Round Brush. Then, to add texture, I curled it section by section using the Harry Josh 1.25 inch Curling Iron, and followed with the Shu Uemura Finishing Spray.

For a messy bedhead effect, I used my fingers to break up the curls and sprayed the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray throughout the roots and ends.

The final hair look should be worn-in, but still sleek. I used the Leonor Greyl Serum all over to add extra shine and eliminate any flyaways.

For makeup artist Kayleen McAdams, career destiny came in such forms as a visit to the set of The Notebook and a job on a Hilary Duff music video.

The Canadian-born McAdams, who studied psychology as an undergrad, didn’t quite realize that her talent for makeup could become a full-fledged career—that is, until she paid a visit to her older sister’s [actress Rachel McAdams] trailer on the set of The NotebookA beauty lightbulb went off, and with her sister’s encouragement, McAdams enrolled in beauty school.

A quick study, McAdams went on to assist renowned artists like Pati Dubroff (their first job together was the aforementioned Duff video in 2005) and Stéphane Marais, eventually relocating to Los Angeles to hone her craft. She has since become an industry regular, working her magic on the faces of celebrity clients like Sofia Vergara, Riley Keough, and, of course, her sister, all of whom appreciate her expertly balanced makeup looks (think: dewy faces plus one standout feature, like a sultry red lip or a smoky eye, against natural skin).

That signature look attracted the attention of one of the world’s most luxurious skincare brands, La Mer. This June, McAdams was named one of the brand’s first-ever color ambassadors to support its foray into makeup.

But when the artist isn’t beautifying the faces of her clients, she can be found putting in quality time with her other two favorite companions. “I spend every minute possible with my dog, Debbie,” she says. “Oh, and my husband.”

Hairstylist Kylee Heath has always known what she wants. Recently, when visiting her childhood home in Santa Cruz, Heath found a Dr. Seuss book where she had written in 6-year-old scrawl, “I want to be a hairstylist when I grow up.”

At only 26 years old, Heath has built quite a following (Diane Kruger, Reese Witherspoon, and Sofia Vergara, to name a few), all of whom prize her talent for creating textured, healthy hair.

Between her Seuss years and her current power-stylist position, she attended Paul Mitchell The School in Costa Mesa and put in time at the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills. It was from her chair at the latter that a client took notice of her fluid aesthetic and referred her to an agent at The Wall Group. Soon after, Heath began assisting hairstylists like Giannandrea, Jenny Cho, and Renato Campora, all while building her own clientele. One of her closest client relationships happens to be with Vergara, whom she met in 2011. “Working with Sofia definitely changed things for me,” Heath recalls. “She’s been so loyal.”

But when the day is done and the hairspray (namely, Leonor Greyl Lacque Souple Light Styling Spray) has been packed, Heath has perfected the skill of keeping work separate. “I like to leave a job and have my own life,” she says. “And if I need to get out of LA, I go back to Santa Cruz. That’s the best place to ground myself.”
