In fashion as in beauty, Tom Ford is nothing if not memorable. To give just one example: the sensation the designer caused in 2011, when he returned to the runway after a six-year hiatus. The show starred a group of his closest confidantes, whom he described as “many of the world’s most inspirational women”—and with friends like Beyoncé, Lauren Hutton, and Marisa Berenson, it was no exaggeration. The casting was a pitch-perfect showcase for Ford’s signature sexed-up ’70s looks. Indeed, the Ford woman exudes seduction, confidence, and the ability to a command any room she enters, a quality that also translates to his wildly successful beauty collection.
Since VIOLET GREY first instituted our expert-approved VIOLET CODE curation process two years ago, Tom Ford Beauty products have been some of the most loved and oft requested by our community of artists. As a tribute to his influence and greatness, the artists to A-listers like Kate Bosworth, Kerry Washington, and Emily Blunt share their favorite Tom Ford essentials, straight from the VIOLET GREY shelves.

“I love this pink—it’s a beautiful color for day. Apply the lipstick directly to the lips and blot it out for a stained effect.”

“Tom Ford’s two-step eye primer prevents creasing and keeps eyeshadow on all day. Use a concealer brush to dab the cream over the lid crease and follow up with an eyeshadow brush to apply the powder. Layer your normal eyeshadow over the top. It won’t smudge, even if the temperature soars.”

“I use this to highlight details like high cheekbones and the bridge of the nose. The pearlescent pale gold tone accents almost every skin tone beautifully.”

“It’s very versatile and easy to blend for sheer definition or a more dramatic contoured look. I use it to contour cheekbones, and also around the eye and eye socket to create definition when I do a barely-there nude face. I use the illuminator on bare eyelids, balls of the cheeks, and the inner corner of the eye to create a perfect natural sheen.”

“People are afraid to use a foundation stick, but it’s much easier and versatile than most other foundations. Swipe the stick directly onto the Beautyblender for a sheer finish, or layer it over another foundation as a concealer for more complete coverage. Either way, skin will look luminous and glowy.”
