STRIECHER SISTERS / PHOTOGRAPHY BY JUSTIN COIT

As sisters, we’re constantly giving each other advice, whether solicited or not. And since we admittedly revel in a bit of girl talk, love and relationships are high on the Streicher list of sisterly conversation topics. We’ve always asked each other what to wear on dates, and swapped timely beauty ideas on which makeup will survive an impromptu dip in the pool or how to deal with hair during (and after) a sunset motorcycle ride. Yes, as true California girls, we love the outdoors, so it should come as no surprise that all our favorite dates take place en plein air. Below, a few of our preferred activities, and, of course, the corresponding beauty tips and tricks for each. We hope they’ll inspire torrid romance—or at the very least, a fun summer fling.

Love,

THE FIRST DATE:
Ashley Streicher

The Date: Margaritas at Malo and a Dodgers game. Malo’s original space is Silver Lake and has cool black and white chevron walls and outdoor seating. You'll feel cooler just by sitting there and eating their insane tacos.

Ashley’s Tip: We ride there on a motorcycle because you can’t get parking. I love being outside for a date, there’s no pressure to doll up and it breaks the ice—you can’t talk in a movie theater. I love getting the soft serve that comes in the Dodger hat, and snacking on peanuts with the shell. And there’s the Kiss Cam…

I love this soft pink shade—it’s flirty and romantic without feeling overly done-up.

This is a must for hat- and helmet occasions. Spray it into your roots, and boom—instant volume. Just fluff your hair with your hands after taking your hat of and you’ll be good to go.

Toss one of these in your purse for special occasions—they’re hand blended to order by a perfumer in Portland, and they last all night.

I picked one of these up in Paris at Colette. The designer is actually a hair stylist but makes these beautifully simple pins as well. They’re perfect for sweeping hat hair up into a sexy French twist.

THE FIFTH DATE:
KRISTIE Streicher

The Date: Skinny dipping. I love to swim and swimming naked is the ultimate expression of freedom. It’s definitely not a first-date event but skinny dipping is one of my favorite hot summer dates.

Clearly stay-put mascara is a must for this type of activity—I don’t think there’s any better look than emerging from the water with dripping-wet hair and silent film star worthy long lashes. The only accessory you’ll need.

I’ll never tire of red lipstick, and this palette comes with four specially formulated, stay-in-place shades so I can play around with the tone. I dab a little on my cheeks as well for a bit of a glow.

This powder makes your hair dry really well après swim. I do a braid then sprinkle it on, pull a few strands loose and then knead it in. The ultimate in disheveled-sexy.

…Because we’re skinny-dipping, after all. The application glove is a must, since streaky self-tanner stained hands are a real mood-killer.

I demand an even, better-than-natural glow, and this mask does the trick. Apply at bedtime and wake up looking radiant and sun-kissed, minus the age spots.

There’s something incredibly glamorous about lounging poolside in a robe post-swim. Slipping into this silk Charmeuse one (with nothing underneath, clearly) makes me feel like a modern Joan Crawford.

THE 1000th date:
JENN STREICHER

The Date: Wine Tasting at Barnsdall

The art park hosts this every Friday at sunset on the lawn of a historic Frank Lloyd Wright house, and Silver Lake Wine serves four selections. There are kids running around so I love that I can bring my son and set him loose while I get some quality alone time with my husband—date night without a sitter. I’ve tried to get my sisters to try it but they say they don’t qualify because they don’t have kids!

Jenn’s Tip: Bring a blanket and pack a picnic basket for the full experience.

It’s hard to beat a vintage-feeling picnic blanket; this one is my sartorial ideal. The leather strap contraption makes it so easy to tote around.

This is a must to protect from the sun’s final rays. It’s superstrong but also so lightweight and doesn’t leave a white sheen.

In summertime I like to use this in lieu of foundation for light coverage. Laura Mercier’s products are all really well formulated so they don’t clog pores or cause breakouts.

This double duty product looks lends a sexy flush to lips or cheeks. It’s like paint, it doesn’t move. Because you're drinking wine, after all.

Mr. Ford’s wood-based scent is spicy and exotic, and feels right for an outdoor date. One of my all-time favorites.

Waterproof and longwearing, this pencil makes eyes look like the bomb. I run it across my upper lid and lower lash line to really make them pop.
