Midwestern-bred Lindsey Wixson first visited Hollywood at age 15, chaperoned by her mom and with big hopes of making it as a model. “It was super hot and scary because my mom was driving!” Wixson, now 22, remembers. After less than two weeks in California, she landed her first job: a Steven Meisel shoot for Vogue Italia, no less. Runway exclusives for Prada and Miu Miu, campaigns for Alexander McQueen and Chanel, and double-page editorials starring that preternatural pout weren’t far behind. With her overnight catapult into high fashion, Wixson’s story has all the plot elements of a feel-good Hollywood movie. But with a face like that, it feels more like an inevitability.

A conversation with model Lindsey Wixson.

Current neighborhood?

Pacific Palisades.

Best thing you can do in LA?

Go with the flow.

How would you spend a perfect LA Sunday?

Surf in Topanga, then go somewhere for vegan food. My new favorite restaurant is Sage in Echo Park. I’m not vegan, but it’s important that my food comes from a good source. I try to stay away from meat, and I’m allergic to eggs.

What’s your LA fitness regimen?

It’s totally different here because I surf. I went hiking the other day too—I felt that one in my butt the next day. I didn’t bring water for the two-mile hike; I thought I was going to die.

Beauty essential?

Activated charcoal lemonade, which helps cleanse and alkalize the body.

What’s your LA hidden gem?

Is your beauty routine different in LA than elsewhere?

Oh yeah! I started seeing a facialist at the Raven Spa who told me to do a scrub because there’s a lot of dirt and pollution here. And I use a mud mask by Scents of Awe that’s really hydrating and cleansing.

What’s the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night?

First I have tons of water with a pinch of pink Himalayan and Mediterranean sea salt, recommended by a nutritionist at the Premier Center in Santa Monica. Before bed I take hormone-balancing tablets and have a mint tea.

Soundtrack you drive to?

I listen to The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Carly Simon, and classic rock like Led Zeppelin. I’m a rock chick at heart; my dad always played the acoustic guitar but his real love was the electric guitar.

Necessary indulgence?

Kippy’s, an organic vegan ice cream spot in Venice.

In-car beauty essential?

I always keep a ChapStick nearby.
