The founders of LA’s new luxury massage destination, The Now, share their beauty routines and their secrets to hitting reset.
Written By Jayme Cyk
All jewelry designer Gara Post and digital marketing exec Erica Malbon wanted in their busy lives was a place they could go for a quick hit of relaxation—particularly in the form of massage. Driven by the belief that holidays shouldn’t be restricted to two weeks in the summer and that indulgence needn’t be synonymous with extravagance, the friends teamed up to open their West Hollywood luxury massage destination, The Now, last November. The aesthetic is summery and relaxing; the prices, blissfully reasonable (think: $35 to $90). “It’s like a little vacation within your own city,” says Post.
Designed to look (and feel) like a beach resort, The Now space comprises raw elements like unfinished wood, cement treatment floors, and exposed beams, and there are always botanical scents in the air. “We wanted to create a space that inspired all the senses,” says Malbon, adding that she and Post will open another location in Santa Monica come summer. “In our generation, people are doing whatever makes them feel better,” Post notes. “So why not take care of yourself without throwing down a lot of money?”

Naturally, the duo’s devotion to health and wellness translates into their own daily rituals. Below, Post and Malbon share their respective day and night routines.
BEAUTY DU JOUR
In the morning I wash my face with Cetaphil Cleansing Cloths, then do a spritz of toner from Eminence to rejuvenate my skin before I wake my kids (I won’t finish my full routine until they’re up and dressed). After I drop them off at school I either hike or go to Pilates Plus. If it’s a hiking day, I apply SPF by Revision Skincare. After working out, I go home, shower, wash my face again with Cetaphil, apply the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic serum to my face, and use the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer. I’ve never really worn a lot of makeup, but I use that as foundation during a typical day. Also, I’ll put on the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar bronzer and fill in my eyebrows with the Surratt Beauty Brow Pencil, which I learned about from Kristie Streicher. She also got me to buy the Mary Kay Brow Gel. It’s the best! Finally, I have to have my eyelash extensions done every two weeks at my house.
WAKE-UP TIME
I set my alarm for 5:45 every morning, but I hit snooze twice—I’m a big snoozer.
FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS
The first thing I do is sit up in bed and meditate for 20 minutes. Ironically, I started right before we opened The Now. Even though I live in LA now, I’m still a super Type A, fast-paced New Yorker, so it’s been really beneficial for me to calm down before I get my two kids up. Then I drink my 16 ounces of lemon water at room temperature.
COFFEE, TEA, OR JUICE
I am obsessed with Dunkin Donuts coffee. I grew up in New York and I still love it. It’s the one thing I can’t live without. I put it in my Keurig coffee maker and add a little brown sugar and 2% milk. And I eat a Health Warrior Peanut Butter Chocolate Chia Bar before I work out.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR?
“Where’s my tinted moisturizer?” I tend to have a lot of red in my complexion. It’s gotten better and I’m consistent with my laser treatments, but I really love my Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer to help even out my skin tone.
WHEN DO YOU GET YOUR BEST IDEAS?
Definitely in the morning. I usually get my best ideas while I’m meditating, or sometimes during yoga. Even in the shower!
BATH OR SHOWER?
I religiously steam shower every morning. My shower is one of my favorite parts of my house—it’s an entire glass wall with a tub and multiple shower heads. I can chill and no one bothers me, plus it’s great for my skin and really relaxing.
BEAUTY ICON
Kate Moss because she’s around my age—she has been my go-to person since I was 18. My friend always sends me pictures of her and says, “Look! Kate Moss rocks it, so you can too!” Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are also my beauty icons. I love their style and The Row. It’s one of my favorite lines.
MASSAGE TREATMENT OF CHOICE
I love The Traveler. I really like a good deep-tissue massage.
BEAUTY DU JOUR
I’m super lazy, so I have my beauty routine down to a science. I’ve been using Eve Lom for a long time because I have really dry skin. At night I use her Balm Cleanser with the muslin cloth. It leaves my skin feeling clean without stripping the natural oils. I use Sunday Riley’s Luna Oil and apply the Shiva Rose Balm as my daily moisturizer. Plus, a few times a week I use the Koh Gen Do Soft Gommage Gel to remove any dead skin.
BEDTIME
I usually go to bed between 10 and 11 p.m. I try every night to turn in earlier because I know I’ll feel so much better in the morning, but I generally end up reading or texting.
NIGHTCAP OF NOTE
Definitely red wine. I like Pinot Noir or Cabernet, but I’m not that picky. I only have a drink with dinner if life permits—the meal generally consists of a lot of catching up with my husband and kids.
BEDSIDE READING
I read a lot of self-help books. Some of my favorites are Daring Greatly by Brene Brown, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, and Size 0—A Guide to Spiritual Management by Guram Gvasalia. I just started The Alchemist again. I’ve read it so many times already, but I feel like it’s a good story with a lot of meaning.
EYE MASK, EYE CREAM, OR I DON’T CARE?
I don’t care. The Shiva Rose Balm is so moisturizing that it can be used as an eye cream too. I’m pretty oiled up and really shiny before bed because of my dry skin.
WHEN DO YOU GET YOUR BEST IDEAS?
Before I fall asleep I get all these ideas. I either enter them into my phone or jot them down on a little piece of paper next to the bed—if I don’t, I’ll forget by the next day.
BATH OR SHOWER?
I’m a big bath person—I wish I had more time to spend in the tub. I love the Pursoma line—it combines clay, salts, and minerals that are amazing for detoxing after a long day—and Susanne Kaufman’s products. The Herbal Whey Bath is very nourishing and calming.
BEAUTY ICON
I really love Sophia Loren. I have dark hair and so does she, and you always tend to look to people who you can kind of relate to. And I’ve always thought that her whole era of Hollywood was so glamorous.
MASSAGE OF CHOICE
I tend to get The Fix, which focuses on a combination of the feet, neck, head, and shoulders in a massage chair. I enjoy massages, but I don’t always want to get completely undressed. I usually choose an add-on like the collagen eye mask. Then I can sit in the chair and even use my laptop and multitask.
