Fake a fresh blowout on dry hair by adding lift at the roots with this simple strategy.
Written By Lexy Lebsack
Ridiculously full, voluminous hair – the kind that bombshells like Brigitte Bardot and Raquel Welch were known for – has earned the reputation of making women envious and men desirous. Translation: It’s a good thing. While the traditional tools necessary to build volume included rollers, a teasing comb and a blast of heavy hairspray, one need not resort to this time-consuming strategy to achieve similarly enviable volume on dry hair. Instead, VIOLET GREY suggests a clever practice that produces softer, lighter, more touchable results: Start with Serge Normant’s (the man responsible for the full hair of Blake Lively and Sarah Jessica Parker) miraculous volumizing elixir set with a burst of heat and finish with Sachajuan’s strand-amplifying spray.
The step-by-step guide, including products approved by The Violet Code, below.
THE ROOT LIFT
To begin, create horizontal partings on dry hair two inches apart. Working from the nape of the neck and moving toward the crown of the head, lightly spritz volumizer onto roots. This will create a pliable structure and fullness while helping to eliminate any unwanted oil.
Using a blow-dryer set to its lowest heat and speed setting, flip your head upside down and gently dry the product while fluffing any sections that are saturated with product. This allows the volumizer to set and the roots to become fuller. Once dry, flip your head back over and finger-comb hair into the desired shape.
Now is the time to restyle your ends and bangs, if needed. To finish, tilt your head to one side, allowing all the hair on that side of the head to fan out fully. Using short bursts, spray Sachajuan’s Volume Powder into the roots and mid-lengths of hair. Repeat on the other side then finger-comb hair back into place.
