Last year was a game changer for Stone, who delivered star turns in a blockbuster (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opposite longtime beau, Andrew Garfield), a Woody Allen period romp (Magic in the Moonlight) and a Broadway musical (holding her own as the unsinkable Sally Bowles in Cabaret). However, it was her role as the troubled, heartbroken Sam, in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s surrealist film, Birdman, that caught the critics’ attention and earned her three Best Supporting Actress nominations and counting.
Stone’s performance on the press circuit, meanwhile, has been equally triumphant. Photo after photo of the actress looking utterly flawless — here at the Venice Film Festival, there at a Tokyo film premiere — left the beauty world breathless and clamoring to imitate makeup artist Rachel Goodwin and hairstylist Mara Roszak’s handiwork. “This was the year that Emma really came into her own on the red carpet,” says Goodwin, who has worked with Stone for the last seven years. “I think part of her secret is that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She can pull off a vampy berry lip or ’60s liner with the same sense of levity and fun.”
Below, Goodwin and Roszak discuss Stone’s best looks, product essentials and more.
