Re: Mothers Day Gift Guide
April 24, 2019

As far as I’m concerned, every day should be Mother’s Day. Mothers have the hardest and most important job on Earth with literally no days off. I was the wife of a studio boss. I was a waitress. I was an event planner, and I co-founded a venture backed start-up where the joke is that you are meant to do extraordinary things in a short period of time without enough time or money. But none of those roles prepared me for motherhood—the most challenging of them all. If it were not for the almighty ipad, I’m not sure I would have survived threenagerhood. The single best piece of advice I have ever received on child rearing: NO does not mean YES eventually. I only have one child; mothers of three and four children deserve an award. Scratch that. Every mother deserves an award. In fact, we should have an entire awards season dedicated to us bad bit&hes. Instead, all we get is one day? And in place of an award, our thanks is usually in the form of...flowers?! A dozen roses, c’mon you’re better than that. Do more this year. To make it easy for you, here is my gift guide, including the gifts money can’t buy and the expensive-but-worth-it gift ideas from the mother of all beauty edits—VIOLET GREY.

TOP TEN CHEAP FREE GIFTS FOR THE MOTHERS IN YOUR LIFE
For your baby mama:
Write a letter of appreciation and deliver it by hand.
For your wife and the mother of your children:
Give her a break and take over everything she does for the family for an entire week. If you do most of the child rearing in your house, plan things for her to do with and without the kids. Think fun stuff like cooking or baking a cake. If you can’t manage a whole week, spare a day to plant a bed of roses just for her.
For your mother:
Create an epic instagram story (shoot for at least 10 slides) and tell the world, including your mom and all her friends who are following you, just how awesome she is. Describe the top 10 reasons why she’s the best mother (even if she’s not), because I guarantee you, we’re all just trying to do the best we can.
For your stepmother:
Make a scrapbook of all your fondest memories with her. She undoubtedly tried really hard to bond with you, and if she believes the effort was worth it, this is priceless. If you are Cinderella and your stepmother is evil, nothing will make her angrier than kindness. Trust me, this is fun.
For your mother-in-law:
Write—or if you have kids, help them write—her a love letter. One she will want to frame. Dig deep.
For your grandmother:
Make a little book of all the things you learned from her and title it: Everything I Learned from My Grandmother, By Me.
For your grandmother-in-law:
Help your spouse write a little book of all the things he or she learned from her. Use the same title as above.
For your best friend’s mom who treated you like one of her own:
Bake her a chocolate cake.
For the mothers in your moms’ group or a group of mothers you admire:
Create an Instagram story shout out to all “my mothers out there.”
For your chosen mother:
Write a song about her. This is my jam.

She’ll finally get a chance to detox and relieve any muscle tension. Top it off with Susanne Kaufmann Mallow Blossom Bubble Bath for a bit of skin pampering, and while you’re at it, light some candles and pour her some rosé.

The woman who stands by you through thick and thin should be pampered with some beauty support. Enter Joanna Czech’s hand-held Facial Massager.
