Nick [Axelrod], the co-founder of Nécessaire, is a good friend of mine. When I was out in LA a few months ago, he gave me a sample of the Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator to try, which was perfect since VIOLET GREY was also testing it for launch. To be honest, I was like, Body scrub. Really? I trust Necessaire a lot, and I know they’re not going to launch something that already exists—they’re going to push it further. But I was also thinking, how can Nécessaire make a body scrub that’s so different from what’s already out there? I did not think I was going to have my mind blown.
But my reaction, the first time I used it, was like, wait—what just happened to my skin? When I got out of the shower—before applying anything else—I grazed it and noticed it was so soft. My body is normally really, really dry, which drives me nuts. Other companies add oil to their scrubs, and your skin is smoother for a minute, but it’s an illusion that doesn’t last. Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator isn’t oily, so the softness your skin feels is the way it really is. And that sold me instantly. It is just so amazing, and actually works!
The texture of the scrub is one of its main benefits—it’s extra smooth and gentle. It’s a gel that turns into a foam when you add water. And it’s not super grainy. One of the problems I have with scrubs is that I always feel like little bits are left behind on my body after I’ve showered. But this blend of ultra-fine bamboo charcoal and pumice, along with chemical exfoliators such as glycolic and salicylic acids, rinses away easily and cleanly. It doesn’t feel as though I’m clogging the plumbing in my bathroom either.
Now I have three tubes of Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator in my shower—one in each scent. I use it at least once a week, sometimes more often just because. It’s an essential in my routine. I even did a story about it on Instagram, which is not something I do often with products. But I think people need to know about a product this good.
