Our French beauty expert puts a sultry nude spin on the classic smoky eye.
Meet Violette—a girl who is more likely to be found applying makeup in the backseat of a moving vehicle or on the streets of New York than she is perched at her vanity. A girl who, like you, always has someplace to be and no time to get there. In this weekly video series, VIOLET GREY follows the Parisian makeup artist around town to chronicle her infamous on-the-go beauty routines. The rules? No crew, no set, no artificial lighting—and no contouring.
Amid hotel lobby rush hour, Violette creates a sophisticated nude look featuring Laura Mercier's Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Amethyst, her favorite highlighter, and Surratt Beauty’s Automatique Lip Crayon in the shade Celestine.

Start with a bit of concealer. Violette layers two shades of Nars Radiant Cream Concealer to compliment her tan, “I like to put the darker [first], and then the lighter on top.” For more coverage, the expert suggests using your finger tips to gently pat the concealer into your skin, including the area around your lips.
Next, Violette uses her favorite highlighter to add a subtle glow to her cheekbones, Cupid's bow, and the inner corners of her eyes. Enhancing her complexion further, she applies a Kjaer Weis Cream Blush along her cheekbones. Her shade of choice: Sun Touched. The sun-kissed hue delivers a youthful glow with the help of naturally nourishing jojoba seed oil and beeswax.
“I apply this all over my eyelid, and on the bottom eyelid,” says Violette. With its lightweight texture, the creamy shadow easily glides on to achieve what our beauty expert calls a “kind of nude-toned, smoky eye.” To make her eyes pop, Violette tops it off with the Specter eyeshadow from Urban Decay's Moondust Palette. "I like to apply it just in the middle of the bottom eyelid," she notes.
