violette:
blue eyes

featuring  loan

Over breakfast, Parisian makeup artist Violette creates a bold daytime look for her friend Loan. Get the look and meet the girl, below.

To say that The Violet Files contributor Violette surrounds herself with an inspiring group of women would be an understatement. Follow the French makeup artist around long enough and you’ll meet a bevy of talented artists—actresses, painters, stylists, editors, creative directors (some of them all these at once). They come from all walks of life, and live in many different cities, but they are all charming, often French, and all hang out with Violette.

We’re pleased to introduce you to one such friend from Violette’s girl gang...

Meet Loan Chabanol

Actress & Artist

Violette says: “I admire her peaceful, beautiful spirit and unconditional love. She looks at you without judgment and it makes you feel free.”

HOW THEY MET

I was a model in Paris seven or eight years ago, and I met Violette and we instantly became friends. We’ve followed each other’s careers and helped each other ever since. She really knows how to make you feel beautiful.

ON TRYING BLUE EYESHADOW

I loooved the blue. I always go simple during the day and even at night, so I was super surprised. I would not have tried it on by myself, but with Violette I did—she makes you take risks.

ON HER MANY TALENTS

ACTING

Next I am shooting an action film in Rome and Vietnam, but I can’t say much about it now. In Transporter I didn’t have any fight scenes. I was playing an alpha woman. In the next one I’m going to be kicking ass. I have to start eating proteins and drinking shakes...

AND ART

I’ve been painting since I was very young, and I eventually decided to show my work. My last show was called “Born in Blue,” and I’m planning on doing a new show in December in Chelsea. But I’m in New York now to work on an animation. It’s a character I drew a couple of years ago and recently decided to bring to life.

ON FRENCH BEAUTY

French women kind of go with the flow. For example, today it’s raining, so my hair is going to be curly, but that’s okay—it’s going to look amazing. We adapt to what is happening because the less you worry, the better you feel.

ON MAKEUP

I like to look like me, and I think the skin is beautiful so you have to show it the way it is. I use concealer but I keep the nature of the skin, and I think my skin has been good all these years because I didn’t do much to it.

ON LIPSTICK

I’m addicted to lipsticks. I have a whole collection at home—190 lipsticks from Chanel. I just find them so beautiful…

ON FRENCH PHARMACIE

I’ve been using the same micellar water, Bioderma Crealine, as my makeup remover for years now. And I’ve used La Roche Posay all my life. I use their Gommage Surfin as a face scrub, the Toleriane cream on my face for summer, the Nutritic cream for winter, and Sanoflore’s Miel aux mille vertus if I’m on a plane. For body lotion I use Sanoflore Miel nourricier. I have very sensitive skin and I don’t like a lot of chemicals, so I will go for anything that has less.
