violette’S ApÉro
shimmery eye

The Parisian makeup artist makes a case for upping your eye look for
post-work drinks.

Meet Violette—a girl who is more likely to be found applying makeup in the backseat of a moving vehicle or on the streets of New York than she is perched at her vanity. A girl who, like you, always has someplace to be and no time to get there. In this weekly video series, VIOLET GREY follows the Parisian makeup artist around town to chronicle her infamous on-the-go beauty routines. The rules? No crew, no set, no artificial lighting, no retouching—and no contouring.

In this week’s tutorial, Violette is focused on the perfect glistening eye look for Apéro (French for after-work drinks). Cheers to looking your best by candlelight.

Touch up under the eyes and around the lips to create an even complexion. Violette notes, “I already did my makeup this morning, so I don’t need much because I already have on mascara.”

Dab on Tata Harper Volumizing Tint on the apples of the cheeks for a subtle pop of color. Violette also wanted to add a little light, so she advises tapping the RMS Living Luminizer on the inner corner of the eyes and the cupid’s bow.

The feature that takes center stage in today’s tutorial? The eyes. Apply the Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick all over the lid and in the top and bottom of the waterline for a smoky effect. Put a little in the outside corner and smudge it with your finger to create an almond eye shape. Then use the Urban Decay Eye Palette and tap the Lithium shade onto the center of the eyelid. “I’m going to add this Make Face Gloss onto my cheekbones to accentuate the lighting of the evening and on my eyelid for a lit effect,” adds Violette. “Now I’m good to have some Apéro.”
