The ZIIP Beauty founder and skin care guru reveals her routine for a lit-from-within, photo-ready complexion.
ZIIP Beauty founder and electrical esthetician Melanie Simon is perpetually radiant. She’s even made her appointment-only magic available for at-home use with her palm-size ZIIP Nano Current Skincare Device, a sleek, user-friendly contraption that links up to an iPhone app to target dry skin, signs of aging, and acne. In her weekly video series, the skin care guru gives it to you straight up (a phrase she constantly employs), revealing her anti-aging techniques and go-to products.
When a big event lands on your calendar, luminous skin becomes as much of a prerequisite as your RSVP. Thankfully, esthetician Melanie Simon is an expert at achieving a supernatural complexion on a super-tight timeline. Need proof? Just look at her own skin. Whether you're prepping for a wedding, a red carpet, or just a party filled with Instagram enthusiasts, here are the pro tricks that will leave you beaming.
To start, Simon gets candid: “When you’re not going to the bathroom, you’re just circulating metabolic waste.” Her solution: Oxy-Powder for “four to five days leading up, just until you’re good and regular.” The expert also suggests a cup of warm water with lemon juice: “it just kinda helps everything inside work better.” Next is African Botanics’ Infinité Resurfacing Mask. “If it’s your first time [use it] for five minutes, if you’ve used it regularly, then you can use it for the full fifteen minutes,” she says.
Next, Simon pulls out her ZIIP and conductive gel for an at-home electrical nano-current facial. “I use a lot of gel. People always ask about this. Remember the gel has all sorts of good ingredients, it’s like an active treatment mask and is going to help you skin glow,” she explains. Start by using Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water to wash your face. Then, Simon suggests following up with Biologique Recherche’s purifying Lotion P50 and the esthetician's own Serum C, “This is going to make you look super, super, super glowy and dewy. You need to give it 10 minutes to set up before putting makeup or anything on top of it.”
“I really do like the Susanne Kaufmann Eye Cream Line A and the Tatcha Dewy Skin Face Mist. It just gives you a nice glow.” The light, silky eye cream hydrates while counteracting puffiness and circles. Tatcha’s spray-on moisturizer delivers an instant boost of soothing hydration.
Simon keeps her RMS Beauty Living Luminizer, BeautyBlender, and thermal spring water spray handy “to get you glowy.” Why the water spray? “When you use a dry BeautyBlender it doesn’t have the same effect,” she says, “you want it barely noticeable, just a teeny tiny bit of moisture.” Her final step: eye drops. “These Similasan homeopathic eye drops are my favorite; you don’t even feel them go in.”
