Anyone who has chanced to dance until dawn with girlfriends or stay up past her bedtime to find out the fate of Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal in Love Story knows that even the best of us can wake up with puffy eyes, dehydrated skin, and a splitting headache. In such cases, sometimes even the most high-octane products, when used alone, are not enough to save face and reset an overtired complexion. Below, Jamie Keller, makeup artist at VIOLET GREY’s Melrose Place flagship, explains why two (presents) are better than one, and recommends beauty power pairings for an instant bounce-back.

CONCERN: Parched skin after one too many glasses of Chardonnay at last night’s gala.

SOLUTION: Keller says after the party, sleep in an elixir to make your skin appears as if it has had a good night’s rest. “If you’re still feeling puffy or dehydrated when you wake up, pair it with the SK-II face mask for an extra boost of hydration.”

CONCERN: You had almost too good a time at your birthday party, and your drained complexion belies that lack of beauty sleep.

SOLUTION: To project a healthy glow no matter how unwholesome you feel, Keller suggests starting with the Sisley Express Flower Gel Mask. Apply and let sit for 15 to 20 minutes, then remove and chase with a warming illuminator on the cheekbones.

CONCERN: You fell asleep with your contacts in after a movie marathon with your BFF. Today your eyes are slightly swollen and won’t open to capacity.

SOLUTION: After applying the Eve Lom Eye Lift to instantly smooth, lift, and hydrate, Keller recommends using an eyelash curler to help open up the eye—even if you’re not wearing mascara. “Just curling your lashes gives you that instant gratification.”

CONCERN: Your skin is screaming for a detox. You may have snagged the number of that mysterious stranger, but the less desirable result of bar-hopping is that dull, puffy next-day complexion.

SOLUTION: “Apply this mask in the morning before you leave the house for a youthful glow,” Keller advises. “Then, remove it with the Avène Micellar Lotion Cleansing and Make-Up Remover. It helps get rid of any congestion on the skin.”
