NARS the multiple

NARS makeup artist Uzo reveals why The Multiple stick is true to its name.

Written By JAYME CYK

Whether your lipstick doubles as a blush or your facial oil enjoys a secret life as the perfect highlighter, there is no better discovery than learning your most coveted beauty essential has more than one use. Here, our artist community brings its multitasking tricks to our new column, One Product, Three Ways.

What’s in a name? In the case of The NARS Multiple—a creamy highlighter stick you can use on the eyes, cheeks, lips, and body—it’s everything. “The Multiple from NARS has always been my tried and true,” says NARS makeup artist Uzo, who relies on the magic of the iconic multitasker. “It’s all about creating dimension, and I always go back to it.” Below, her three favorite ways to use this wardrobe essential.

1. GET A GLOW

Uzo’s signature trick? Apply The Multiple before adding foundation for a lit-from-within glow. Using her fingers, Uzo taps The Multiple onto the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and anywhere that light hits the face. “I really want the highlight to be magnifying,” she says. “So you want to go light with the foundation so The Multiple shines through. You can also go back with additional product on top of foundation if you want a bit more of an impact.”

2. a blendABLE base

The Multiple also makes the perfect blending tool—the Copacabana shade is one of Uzo’s favorites because it approximates a true nude. “Whether you want a really clean nude or a smoky eye, The Multiple is the perfect blending base,” she says. “I like layering it with any eyeshadow because it really makes the eyes pop. It’s also designed for the days you don’t have a lot of time; it takes seconds to apply with your fingertip and delivers a nice luster and shimmer.”

3. THE FINAL FLOURISH

To really brighten the complexion, Uzo always uses The Multiple on top of concealer on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and Cupid’s bow, which enhances the work she’s already done. “I pat this in versus rubbing so I don’t take off everything I’ve already placed.” says Uzo. “Just tap it lightly.”
