“We love accessories—the color and brightness and all those things. It really makes you who you are,” says Lori Hirshleifer Sills, the youngest of the three sisters who co-own the legendary store, Hirshleifers, in Manhasset, New York. In Lori’s case, that manifests as a well-loved Birkin customized by Virgil Abloh (he christened an Off-White pop-up there in 2018) and now bedecked in bag charms. It’s there, too, in a nine-deep stack of diamond bracelets: “That’s a hell of a great party!!!” a fan commented on Instagram.
Such eye candy has made Lori something of a social-media star. Ditto her niece, Marci Hirshleifer Penn, the women’s buyer and global personal shopping director, whose office door features an illustrated Chanel bag. “We only want the best of the best,” says Marci of the store’s overarching ethos, “and that’s what Cassandra has.” Thus began the partnership between VIOLET GREY and Hirshleifers, culminating in a newly fêted in-store residency.
For Lori and Marci, the world of potions and pigments is interwoven with personal style. Marci is the self-described beauty junkie, singling out Fara Homidi’s chic blue compacts or a Westman Atelier gloss. “When we’re traveling in Paris,” Lori says, “we usually have attached rooms, and Marci will always have eye masks on and her hair up in something. I’m definitely the boy of the family,” she adds with a laugh—though the products mentioned here suggest she too is well-versed in cult-favorite beauty. For retail savants who love to shop, it’s certainly convenient to have the VG curation on hand at Hirshleifers. Here, the two so kindly share their gift lists, from must-have hair tools to seriously good skin care.
