This Earth Day, we are pleased to introduce Indré Rockefeller, the fashionable founder, scholar, and entrepreneur who weaves sustainability and environmentalism into each and every one of her numerous pursuits. A former professional ballet dancer and Vogue alum, Indré first took her activism from the personal to the professional as a designer for Paravel, the chic travel brand she co-founded (see: world’s first carbon-neutral suitcase!). The goal, she says, “was not only to minimize the company’s climate footprint, but also to become innovators and leaders in sustainable design.”

Fully committed to the cause, Indré received a Master’s degree (her second) at Columbia Climate School before diving into her latest venture, The Circularity Project, a just-launched nonprofit that empowers fashion designers to use their creative tools and community to lead the way in sustainable practices. “Circularity is an approach to making products that moves away from the traditional 'take-make-waste' model—where we extract resources, create products, and then toss them in landfills when we’re finished—to a regenerative model,” she explains. “In this model, products are designed to last longer, to be reused, recycled, or safely biodegrade after their use.” Indré brings this same circular approach to shopping for beauty—seeking out products with recyclable, compostable, reusable and/or refillable packaging and clean, sustainably sourced, cruelty-free, organic, or reef-safe ingredients. Below, the VIOLET CODE APPROVED products that meet her standards and fill her BAG.
