My shrink describes entrepreneurship as a religion of pain and recovery. It is only after a decade of pain and recovery that I feel truly qualified to mentor other entrepreneurs on the come up. MARJORIE ELAINE HARVEY: WHAT INSPIRED SKN BY LH?
Lori Harvey: My own skin issues and sensitivities inspired me to create my own line. I was using so many different products at the time to achieve a radiant and glowing complexion and I felt like there had to be a simpler solution to my problems. This led me to do my own research to find the best chemists to help me formulate a clean, vegan, 5-step skin care system suitable for all skin types but especially catered to people with sensitive skin.

M.E.H: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED MOST ABOUT SKIN CARE AND BEAUTY?
L.H.: I’ve learned that one size does not fit all when it comes to skin care. Everyone has different skin issues and therefore needs, so it’s very important to learn your skin type in order to find the right regimen and products for you. Also learning to layer your skin care in the right order so you’re getting the maximum benefits for your skin.

M.E.H: WHILE BUILDING YOUR BRAND AND SKIN CARE LINE, WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WANTED YOUR SKIN CARE PRODUCTS TO HAVE AS FAR AS TEXTURE, SMELL, FEELING TO THE SKIN, ETC.?
L.H.: It was very important for me to include ingredients that would be hydrating and improve the overall texture and tone of the skin. I wanted the products to have a nice, natural, and fresh scent but nothing synthetic or too heavy because I still wanted it to be suitable for sensitive skin types. It was also important for me that the full 5-step routine can be used year-round, so I wanted it to be lightweight enough for summer but still keep skin feeling smooth and hydrated in the winter months.

M.E.H.: WHAT IS YOUR DAILY SKIN CARE ROUTINE (IF YOU HAVE ONE)?
L.H.: My daily skin care routine includes my entire SKN by LH product line…

M.E.H.: HOW DO YOU PREP YOUR FACE FOR MAKEUP?
L.H.: I start with my 5-step skin care routine (plus SPF!) and then I always will use some type of eye mask before I do my makeup. Sometimes, I’ll put the eye patches on my smile lines as well to help soften them a bit.

M.E.H.: WHAT DO YOU DO BEFORE GOING TO BED?
L.H.: I love to do multiple masks in one night. First, I’ll use an exfoliating mask, then I’ll do a clay mask, then I’ll do some type of brightening or vitamin C mask, next I’ll do a sheet mask (massaging the excess serum into my skin), and then finish with my nighttime skin care routine.

M.E.H.: WHO TAUGHT YOU ABOUT MAKEUP OR WERE YOU SELF TAUGHT?
L.H.: I learned from watching you (my mom) get your makeup done growing up. I would literally hover over the makeup artist asking a million questions and then I would go in my room and practice on myself. It took a few years but I finally got my signature look down.

M.E.H.: WHAT PRODUCT DO YOU NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT?
L.H.: I never leave home without my SKN by LH Lip Balm samples that I’ve been working on.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN FACIALS? HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET A FACIAL?
L.H.: Absolutely! A good facial is needed from time to time just for the overall maintenance of your skin. I personally try to get facials at least 3-4 times a month because of all the wear and tear my skin goes through between traveling and shoots.

M.E.H.: YOU WEAR MANY HATS—BEAUTY ENTREPRENEUR, A MODEL, CEO–WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR CHEAT NOTES TO GETTING IT ALL DONE?
L.H.: I thrive with a routine. I have my morning routine where I take some time to do something for myself whether it’s drinking my green juice, working out, or meditating, and then I’ll get started with my day. I have a great team that keeps me on track with my day-to-day tasks and obligations, ensuring I get everything done that I need to get done.

M.E.H.: THROUGHOUT YOUR SKIN CARE JOURNEY AND YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST BENEFICIAL PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE YOU HAVE PICKED UP ALONG THE WAY?
L.H.: The most beneficial piece of knowledge I have picked up is to not be afraid to ask questions and to ask for help when you need it because you’ll be surprised at how many people want to help and see you win.

M.E.H.: WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NEXT FOR SKN BY LH?
L.H.: I’m working on a lot of new product developments right now, but the ones that you can look forward to seeing in the near future would be an SPF and a nighttime routine.

M.E.H.: WHERE ARE YOU HAPPIEST?
L.H.: I’m happiest when I’m at home with my family and friends or on an island living my best life.

M.E.H.: WHAT IS THE CHARACTER TRAIT THAT YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF?
L.H.: The ability to be able to let things go and just let things roll off my back. If something doesn’t go as planned I try not to dwell on it too long. I just let it go and move on because I’m a firm believer in what is for me will never miss me.

M.E.H.: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR 14-YEAR OLD SELF?
