When our curation team heard that top editorial hairstylist Cyndia Harvey was launching a line based around a single hero product, we immediately fired off a note to see what it was all about. We love a hero here at VIOLET GREY, and we were already huge fans of Harvey’s work, from her backstage magic at Schiaparelli and Jacquemus and campaign work for Loewe, to her groundbreaking 2017 short film, This Hair of Mine, which beautifully explores the heritage of textured hair—and inspired her brand-new company.

Calling from London, where she is based, the Jamaican-born stylist introduced our VIOLET LAB team to the decadent, multi-tasking Scalp Serum that has quickly become a favorite within her circle of models and fashion world creatives. Harvey whipped it up in response to the scalp irritation, hair breakage, and thinning she was seeing models experience as a result of regular styling, especially among those with textured hair. Created for all hair types, but especially in service to her own community, This Hair of Mine is a luxurious, multi-use everyday treatment that promises stronger, more resilient hair as the result of a healthier, balanced, and nourished scalp. We could not start using it fast enough.

Each member of the VG staff found a different way to use this serum rich in follicle-anchoring actives and nourishing plant oils: as an overnight mask to soothe and repair the scalp, as a pre-cleanse clarifying treatment 15 minutes before a shower, or as a conditioning leave-in for braids or curly, coily hair. Soon, testers were reporting reduced scalp irritation, less breakage, and softer hair that was, to put it simply, thriving. We were thrilled to send it off to the Committee of Industry Experts for their feedback.
