MAC Hyper Real Skin Care

Skin has never been more in than over the past few years. In 2020, seemingly the entire world took a break from wearing makeup and focused on active formulas that created beautiful, healthy, bare skin. During this pause, where foundation and bronzer sat patiently in drawers, one brand had their eyes on the future. M∙A∙C was never going to give up on makeup. 

Always the innovators, M∙A∙C knew that when makeup came back after the lockdown pause, things would be different: that we would no longer sacrifice our treatments for flawlessly applied, long-lasting color or stand for makeup that pilled or slid off when applied on top of top-tier active skin care. So, the brand set about developing three barrier-fortifying, soothing, radiance-enhancing formulas that create bouncy, glowing skin and support the durability and finish of cosmetics–Hyper Real™ High-Performance Skin Care. Without question, the curators at VIOLET LAB had to take it for a spin.

The first thing we did upon receiving this trio was check the ingredients. Sure, it would look good under makeup, but would it really do anything for our complexions? Short answer: yes. Radiance-promoting Japanese peony extract, hydrating and balancing hyaluronic acid,  barrier-enforcing, moisture-retaining ceramides, smoothing, strengthening niacinamide–this lineup was legit. 

Then, we applied. One pump of Serumizer™ (a lightweight serum/moisturizer hybrid) delivered glowing, smooth, plump skin with pores and wrinkles instantly blurred. A small amount of the light, whipped SkinCanvas BALM™ sealed in moisture and immediately reduced redness–skin looked so bright and even we barely needed foundation. That said, our complexion products wore incredibly well—no patchiness or sliding—and lasted until we melted them off with the silky, softening Fresh Canvas Cleansing Oil. Hooked, we promptly sent this trio the Committee of Industry Experts to see what they made of this skin care for makeup lovers.
