VIOLET GREY’s curators have drawers filled with mascara: Flirty, fluttery formulas to wear on a date; understated, natural-looking options for appearing all but bare-faced; dramatic, oomph-y iterations for swanky soirées and flash photography. We’ve got a tube for every occasion. But where, we wondered, was old faithful? The mascara we could reach for no matter the occasion, the look, the weather? One we could build to our heart’s content, that delivered lifted, separated-yet-lavish-looking inky black lashes, and easily applied with a straight, fluffy brush that didn’t hit our brow bones or under-eyes? We found it in a fluted gold tube from Parisian It-girl Jeanne Damas’ Les Filles En Rouje. As quickly as we could say “J’adore,” samples from this VG-exclusive brand were off to the Committee of Industry Experts for their seal of approval.
