The less-than-glamorous truth? An editor racing between shows during New York Fashion Week can rarely make time for lunch, much less a manicure. But should you find yourself with an hour or so to spare before Marc Jacobs or Proenza, The Violet Files has asked New York-based makeup artist Daniel Martin (he’s a favorite of Julianne Moore and Jessica Alba, to name a few) for suggestions on beauty pit stops in the city that never sleeps—especially during show season.

DERMATOLOGIST
Dr. Amy Wechsler | 3 East 69th Street, New York, NY 10021
I love this woman, and my celeb clients adore her! I refer a lot of them to her because she really respects and understands the skin.

NAILS
Jin Soon | 56 East 4th Street, New York, NY 10003
A tranquil spot in the East Village for a relaxing and very thorough mani-pedi—a gem without all the fuss!

FASHION
The Apartment by The Line | 76 Greene Street, New York, NY 10012
I love to support my friends [like The Line owner Vanessa Traina] whenever possible, and this is my favorite store for finding especially unique gifts and getting inspired.

BEAUTY
oo35mm | 81 Mott Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10013
I have no idea how to say its name (I call it 35mm), but this second-floor gem in Chinatown is where I pick up replenishments of Japanese and Korean beauty essentials for my kit when I don’t make it to Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. I get my K-Palette 24H perfect long-lasting eyeliners, Sana Pore Putty face powder, and Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Lip Balm (which I actually use for cheeks as well). The saturated balms adds beautiful color and glow on cold winter skin.

SHEN Beauty | 315 Court Street, Brooklyn, NY
My good friend Jessica Richards has meticulously curated a great selection of makeup and organic skincare in her Brooklyn shop. I spend hours here when I can.

KIT LUGGAGE
Rimowa | 535 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022
I love using Rimowa suitcases when I travel because they have those durable hard-shell cases but are still light to carry. At this point I just order mine online from The Luggage Factory because I know the brand so well, but they also have a store on Madison if you need instant gratification.

FLOWERS
Bloom Flowers | 255 Murray Street, New York, NY 10282
My friend and client Olivia Palermo turned me on to this place. They do beautiful, creative arrangements in interesting sizes.

MASSAGE
Element Natural Healing Arts | 518 Henry Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231
This is my go-to for a massage, and they also offer acupuncture. It is off the beaten path and discreet, which makes it a favorite among a lot of the actors and actresses in my neighborhood.
