For most skin care lovers, the face is the star of the show. We treat our precious visage well indeed, with toners, peels, serums, masks, eye creams –– the list goes on. The skin on our bodies, however, tends to get the short end of the proverbial stick. If you are anything like me, you may have altogether forgotten that you even have a body under all of the comfy sweats we’ve been living in for the last year. Alas, it exists, it is subject to the same aging processes as our faces, and deserves the same care. If there is anything this beauty expert knows, it is that feeling your best means nurturing yourself inside and out, and head to toe. With this in mind, I’ve curated a list of best-in-class treatments to elevate your body care experience into a ritual that is equal parts self-preservation and self-indulgence.
CLEAN AND CLEAR
Every skin care routine starts with cleansing your skin, and body care is no different. With Necessaire’s The Body Wash in Bergamot, you are not simply washing, you are providing your skin with a softening, vitamin-rich treatment. Follow with the integral, and often overlooked, step of exfoliation. This process removes dead skin, clearing texture and dullness, and paves the way for your serums and creams to go to work. There are lots of ways to exfoliate, but none as easy and comprehensive as a peel, and nobody (pun very much intended) does a peel like Dr. Dennis Gross. Use the Alpha Beta Exfoliating Body Treatment Peel–an innovative sheet that’s a one stop shop for brighter, softer, and more even skin.
HYDRATE AND PROTECT
Our bodies need moisturizing just like our faces to stay comfortable and free of damage from environmental and internal aging. But did you know that your body contains way fewer sebum glands than your face, and therefore hardly hydrates itself at all? This is why it requires special treatment when it comes to moisturization. Opt for Agent Nateur’s Holi(Body) Serum to visibly improve texture and tone, followed by the fast-absorbing, softening The Body Lotion - With Niacinamide from Nécessaire. Wrap the dry, fragile skin of your hands in cloud-like moisture with Susanne Kaufmann’s Hand Cream Nourishing, and lastly, top these treatments with the luxurious Soléil Superior Body SPF 50 Broad Spectrum Sunscreen PA++++ to protect your skin from those damaging UVA/UVB rays.
TIGHTEN, TONE, AND SMOOTH
We know how to get toned muscles–exercise. Keeping the skin taught, however, can be a more elusive undertaking. Consider the NuBody Skin Toning Device your skin gym (or at-home free weights and stationary bike, to be more accurate during pandemic life). This innovative microcurrent device delivers smoother, firmer skin all over. For the notoriously tricky arms, apply U BEAUTY’s Arm Sculpt Compound to get tighter skin and more defined muscle tone. And to smooth out unsightly bumps, turn to Lord Jones’ CBD-infused Bump and Smooth Body Serum which acts as an exfoliator of your roughest patches (think: elbows, knees, and heels).
CARE AND COMFORT
Just like beauty, well-being is not only skin deep. If we aren’t feeling well, all of these beautiful treatments will do little to improve our mood. To take extra special care of a particularly sensitive area, use Dr. Janine Mahon’s Rejuvenating Breast Oil, a botanical blend that helps with tenderness and circulation. I love that the massage you use to apply it also encourages you to give yourself a breast exam, because nothing is more important than your health.
