Q: Do I have time to condition before date night?

True hair devotees know that canceling plans in order to tend to tresses isn’t always an excuse — occasionally deep conditioning really does take precedence.  Yet modern-day formulations now allow for instant hair transformation. Here, 3 solutions to hydrating hair on the fly. And if you’re running a few minutes behind, keep your date waiting — a little suspense always ups the ante.

The Quick Fix

Damp hair absorbs better than dry, so make the most of your post-shower minutes by spritzing and smoothing product onto towel-dried locks. For fine hair, consider a lightweight serum for shine that won’t weigh down your wisps. If your hair is medium to coarse, try a cream or oil-based treatment for maximum glimmer and moisture potential.

The Relax-and-Restore

Opt for a hair mask to repair damage and hydrate locks. Apply the mask to lightly damp hair in sections with a wide-tooth comb. Allow the treatment to saturate strands, then shampoo as normal. If you prefer to mask while showering, comb through damp hair and wait 2-5 minutes (an opportune moment to exfoliate the skin) before rinsing.

The All-Nighter

If your date isn’t until the next day, take advantage of an overnight treatment. Before bedtime, take a nickel-size amount of oil treatment and massage the fluid starting at the ends and working your way to the scalp. Tie into a loose braid with a hair elastic for long hair or cover short hair with a kerchief. Shampoo in the morning and your hair will be softer and shinier.
