Email & Retention Marketing Manager

Job Summary

VIOLET GREY is seeking a creative, analytical, and self-motivated Email Marketing & Retention Manager to join our e-commerce team.  You will own the creation and execution of our email marketing program, including campaign planning, deployment, and reporting.  Additionally, you will ideate and support other customer-facing retention initiatives.  You should have experience with email calendar creation, onboarding campaigns, triggers, and A/B testing, as well as ensuring email and other retention channels meet  traffic, conversion, and revenue targets.  The ideal candidate will pair fresh and innovative ideas with technical ability, executional skills, and a love of beauty.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the development, execution, and measurement of email marketing campaigns that increase customer engagement and drive incremental sales.

  • Day-to-day execution of email campaigns, including briefing of and collaboration with the Content and Merchandising teams, audience segmentation, coordinating coding, creating automated flows, tagging links, scheduling emails, setting up tests, quality assurance, and deployment.

  • Drive improvement across email KPIs including deliverability, open rates, click rates, conversion rates, opt-out rates, and revenue.

  • Create strategies and tactical plans that fully maximize customer onboarding, up-sell, and retention opportunities.

  • Maintain email content calendar and assist with monthly and quarterly calendar planning to support larger business goals.

  • Build, segment, and test frameworks for continuous improvement.

  • Work with internal and external resources to ensure critical technical steps are taken for optimal email program setup, list selection and segmentation, QA, and tracking.

  • Build dashboards and ongoing analyses that highlight key insights and strategic learnings. Translate analytical findings into clear, actionable insights that drive results.

  • Monitor and communicate marketing industry trends.


  • 3+ years in email marketing in the luxury, fashion, or beauty industries.  Experience in email coding highly preferred.

  • Obsessed with creating email programs that generate high engagement, satisfaction, and sales.

  • Possesses a strong point of view, and can effectively communicate vision to the Content and Merchandising teams.

  • A proactive, business partner who can effectively execute across different business units and can clearly articulate actionable information to influence data-driven business decisions.

  • A core understanding of the luxury consumer’s needs, lifestyle, and media consumption.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and exacting attention to detail.

  • Expert knowledge of Excel, Google Sheets, and Google Analytics or other web analytics platform.

  • Mastery of email best practices and CAN-SPAM compliance

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment; quickly adaptable to new data and strategies.
