VIOLET GREY is pleased to introduce, STREICHER SECRETS, a new monthly column by sisters Jenn, Kristie and Ashley Streicher (makeup artist, brow and hair stylists respectively). Not only are they supremely talented in their individual forms of beauty artistry, they are also kind, charming, funny and possess all the qualities that will make one desire to be their collective best friend. For each column, the Streicher sisters will divulge their own STREICHER SECRETS but first, an introduction…
JENN
STREICHER

VIOLET GREY: WHICH BEAUTY PRODUCT DO YOU USE FIRST EACH MORNING?
Jenn Streicher: I love a good body oil! I am currently obsessed with Caudalie's Huile Divine and I apply it all-over directly after my shower. It immediately absorbs into the skin and makes it feel and look so incredibly soft.
V.G.: DO YOU EVER HAVE NO MAKEUP DAYS?
J.S.: I am almost always wearing mascara, blush, and Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer, even if my call time is in the middle of the night. But if all else fails, and I have no makeup on, I will at least rock a bright orange matte lipstick and some large sunglasses.
V.G.: CAN WE TALK ABOUT YOUR HAIR?
J.S.: My hair changes all the time. At the moment, I love my low-maintenance bowl cut. I start harassing Ashley for a haircut and/or color a week before I really need it because she's a hard one to pin down.
V.G.: WHAT LESSONS IN LIFE AND BEAUTY HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM ASHLEY?
J.S.: I constantly defer to Ashley to keep me “in the loop” with what's going on with the kids. From music to fashion, she's always on cue with what's cool.
V.G.: WHAT LESSONS IN LIFE AND BEAUTY HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM KRISTIE?
J.S.: One of the best things I've learned from Kristie is “Do not over tweeze!”. A full brow does make everyone look younger. Also, brows are meant to look like sisters, not twins. They will never look exactly the same— don’t force them to.
KRISTIE
STREICHER
BROW ARTIST
Known for her trademarked “Feathered Brow” (bold and bushy), Kristie tends to the brow obsessed at her eponymous Beauty Bar in the Warren Tricomi Salon in Los Angeles and New York.

VIOLET GREY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEAUTY TRICK?
Kristie Streicher: A hair trick that I recently learned and love since I have a bob, is to use a flat iron (BaBylssPro Nano Titanium 1" U-Styler) to create natural looking waves. This iron has a smooth rounded edge that makes it easy to create slight horizontal bends in the hair.
V.G.: WHAT IS YOUR BROW MAINTENANCE PHILOSOPHY?
K.S.: Do not ever over tweeze any part of the brow.
V.G.: BROWS ARE OFTEN IGNORED BUT SHOULD DEFINITELY TAKE CENTER STAGE. WHAT'S THE BEST BROW ACCENTUATING BEAUTY LOOK?
K.S.: I love keeping super dark, full, sprout-y feathered brows. You can get away with wearing less makeup and just a pop of color on the lip.
V.G.: WHAT PIECE OF BEAUTY ADVICE DO YOU DISPENSE MOST OFTEN?
K.S.: Exercise and get a healthy amount of sun exposure. Exercising outdoors is the best thing you can do for your mind and body, it’s the best way to a beautiful, healthy glow. But always remember to wear sunscreen.
V.G.: WHICH HAIR STYLING SKILL OF ASHLEY'S DO YOU MOST COVET?
K.S.: How very badly I wish I could braid my own hair! She makes it looks so easy. When my hair was longer, she would always ask me what type of braid I wanted, and I loved giving her creative freedom. It would never be the same braid twice. Often times, she will just make up the braid as she goes— she is a true artist.
V.G.: WHAT MAKEUP TIPS HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM JENN?
K.S.: There's a lot, but one thing that stands out is the importance of blending. Foundation, concealer, eye shadow or blush, using the right tools to blend them seamlessly into the skin is the key to beautiful, natural makeup. I remember watching her softly swirl powder eye shadow flawlessly into the crease of the eyelid. Adding, as she goes.
ASHLEY

VIOLET GREY: WHICH BEAUTY SECRET DO YOU LIVE BY?
ASHLEY STREICHER: I sleep a ton. It’s part of being an Aquarius. I love sleeping and am so much better during daylight hours. I also listen to my body and give it what it needs, and it happens to need a lot of sleep because when I'm awake I use a lot of energy.
V.G.: WHICH DECADE DO YOU THINK WAS THE MOST GLAMOROUS?
A.S.: As far as beauty goes, I would have to say the 1930's. Tons of fur and figure hugging silks, scarves, hats and driving gloves that were all accompanied by chic bobs and pin-set hair!
V.G.: ARE YOU CONSTANTLY CHANGING YOUR HAIR LIKE JENN?
A.S.: My hair looks the best when I let it do its thing. Meaning, I try not to fight it too much or change the integrity of it by making it straight when it really just wants to bend a little bit.
V.G.: WHAT DO YOU ADMIRE MOST ABOUT KRISTIE?
A.S.: We’re all very similar in a lot of ways, but Kristie is the only one of us that can fit so much in one day. That girl can jump out of bed and have the most eventful, accomplishing day.
V.G.: WHAT IS ONE INDISPENSABLE PIECE OF BEAUTY ADVICE THAT YOU LEARNED FROM JENN?
A.S.: She's taught me to take care of my skin and get regular facials. She introduced me to my all-time skin saving facialist, Biba de Sousa, who I now see every other month or so.

In polite society, never provoke a SIBLING— particularly if one of them is your HAIRDRESSER.
